1. Take cocoa beans and clean them with cold fresh water. This will remove extra residue.
2. Now you need to roast these beans in a temperature range between 100 and 135 degrees Fahrenheit. This needs to be done for at least 90 minutes taking care that all the beans are evenly done.
3. Without scorching the beans, try to cool them rapidly. Keep them under a fan to bring them down to room temperature.
4. Now tap the beans lightly with a hammer to loosen and remove the nib from the outer shell.
5. Place a sieve on a bowl and place the crushed cocoa beans on it. Shake and press them gently. The nibs will pass through the sieve and get collected in the bowl.
6. Now, you need to use a grinder to grind these cocoa nibs. You will get the cocoa liquor at the end of the process.
7. You need to pass this cocoa liquor through an expeller or an extrusion to get the cocoa butter. It can also be extracted by filtering through a cotton cloth.
You need 22 lbs. of cocoa beans to get 1 quart of cocoa butter. To get evenly roasted beans, sort the beans in accordance to their size. Finally, you have to be careful while removing the shells of the cocoa beans, the beans should not get completely crushed and become powdery.
DIY Cocoa Butter Lotion
The do it yourself recipe for cocoa butter lotion is mentioned below:
Six tablespoons of organic safflower oil or Camellia seed oil
four tablespoons of raw cocoa butter
10 drops of organic lavender essential oil
a tablespoon of pure organic aloe vera juice
a quarter teaspoon of raw natural silk protein powder
- Take the camellia seed oil and cocoa butter in a double boiler placed over low flame.
- Remove from fire once it melts, now add the aloe vera juice and the silk protein. Whip it for few minutes.
- Keep the bowl inside the freezer for at least 13 minutes.
- Remove from freezer and use an electric mixer to whip it. Once it become frothy continue for five more minutes.
- Add essential oil now and whip for few minutes more.
- Now, your lotion is ready for use. Pour it in a glass bottle.
- Two months is the shelf life of the product. 
DIY Cocoa Butter Lip Balm
Here is the do it yourself recipe for cocoa butter lip balm:
one tablespoon of cocoa butter
two tablespoons of almond or sunflower oil
one teaspoon of beeswax
two teaspoons of castor base oil
five drops of ginger essential oil
four drops of cardamom essential oil
six drops of vanilla essential oil
- Take a double boiler, place beeswax, cocoa butter, castor oil and sunflower oil and mix them on low heat.
- Once they start melting, remove from fire, keep stirring and cool it a little.
- Now add rest of the ingredients while stirring.
- Transfer all into a container where you want to store the balm.
- Wait for six hours before starting to use. To reap the maximum benefits use it within a year. 
DIY Cocoa Butter Deodorant
Following is the do it yourself recipe for cocoa butter deodorant:
Eighty five grams of cocoa butter
sixty drops of a particular or a combination of essential oils
fifteen grams of beeswax
fifteen grams of baking soda
Take a double boiler and melt the beeswax and cocoa butter together. Now you need to mix the baking soda in the above melted combination. You can use an electric hand mixer for the purpose. Bring it down to room temperature and add the essential oils. Transfer the mixture to a mold and let it set in cool and dry place. Once your deodorant block is ready remove it from the mold and transfer it to a neat and clean container. Cover it up with a lid. Use it as and when required. 
Cocoa Butter Based Double Chocolate Body Butter
The homemade recipe for cocoa butter based double chocolate body butter is as follows:
Virgin coconut oil
raw cocoa powder
You have to melt the beeswax, cocoa butter and coconut oil together. Keep whisking while melting. Remove from fire and mix rest of the ingredients. Put the mix in the fridge and after few hours take it out and using a wire whisk whip it well. Store it in an appropriate container and while using take little bit in your fingers and massage it. You can even add few drops of peppermint essential oil to give it a minty flavor and get the benefits of the essential oil. 
DIY Coconut Butter Scrub
Here is the do it yourself recipe for coconut butter scrub:
Three tablespoon each of olive oil and coconut oil
half a cup of cocoa butter
half cup of brown sugar
few drops of any essential oil you want
Melt the cocoa butter by placing it in a double boiler. Using a hand blender, you can whip the melted cocoa butter to make it fluffy. Now, add coconut oil and olive oil to it. This has to be followed by addition of brown sugar. Your scrub is ready now and apply it as and when you want. Leave it for longer duration to moisturize your skin well. 
Cocoa Butter Cookies Recipe
The homemade recipe for cocoa butter cookies involves:
Half a cup of roughly chopped cocoa butter
seven grams of kosher salt
250 grams of sugar
quarter teaspoon of baking soda
one teaspoon baking powder
⅛ teaspoon of grated nutmeg
eight tablespoons of butter that is not salted
one tablespoon of vanilla extract
an egg, three hundred grams of refined flour
a quarter cup of cocoa nibs
three fourth cup of milk chocolate that has been chopped
- Melt the cocoa butter in a stainless steel container over low or medium heat. Transfer it to a bowl and let it cool.
- Now, you need to mix salt, sugar, baking powder, butter, baking soda and nutmeg to the cocoa butter and cream it till it becomes light and fluffy.
- Add the egg and then the vanilla and continue beating it till all gets mixed well.
- Add the flour now and run the mixer again. Once everything combines, you need to fold in the chocolate nibs and chocolate.
- Take a cookie scale or scoop and make 28 portions of the dough.
- Now bake these in a preheated oven for fifteen minutes.
- Cool it on the baking sheet itself for at least five minutes.
- Now, you can eat them or store them in an airtight container at room temperature.
