ark circle, fine lines, wrinkles and puffiness are common beauty problems that affect the delicate skin of the under eye area. They ruin your appearance and make you look older for your age. As there is no overnight solution, the only option is to camouflage the imperfections with under eye concealer. As the name suggests, the job of an under eye concealer is only to conceal the imperfections. It is not a remedy for these problems. Under eye concealers are available in the form of stick concealer, cream concealer, creamy liquid concealer, matte-finish cream to liquid concealer, matte finish liquid concealer and ultra-matte liquid concealer. Each type of concealer has its shares of pros and cons. Moist and creamy concealers that provide light coverage are believed to provide the best result. To cover the dark circles, warm shades of yellow or salmon are considered a better choice. Furthermore, the color of the concealer should be a shade darker than your natural skin tone. Wearing concealer that is of the same color as your skin tone or a shade lighter creates a light-gray shadow that makes the dark circles more noticeable. When using a concealer during the day, make sure that it contains sunscreen as the delicate skin around the eyes need additional protection from the harsh rays of the sun. However, what most of us are not aware of is that these commercial under eye concealers can be easily replaced with a homemade product enriched with natural ingredients that help in improving the health of the under eye skin, which over time can help in reducing the imperfections. Natural emollients such as almond oil and aloe vera gel keep the under eye skin moisturized and soft. When incorporated in under eye concealer recipes they can help in improving the health of the skin around the eyes.

Benefits Of DIY Under Eye Concealer
The DIY under eye concealers are eco-friendly products. Apart from covering the dark under-eye circles, owing to the presence of eco-friendly ingredients, they help in improving the skin. They do not dry out the delicate under eye skin. Moreover, devoid of talc, dyes, starch and other skin irritants they do not irritate the eyes.
How To Apply Under Eye Concealer
Instead of applying the concealer directly to the under eye area, it helps to moisturize the under eye skin with an eye cream or gel before applying the concealer. This helps the concealer to spread easily on the skin and it can last for a longer time. Applying lightweight moisturizer before using a concealer especially helps the under eye skin that is dry or wrinkled. However, if you feel that the under eye concealer is quite thick, use minimal moisturizer and wipe away the excess. Do not cover the entire under eye area with the concealer. Apply the concealer only on the area that is dark. Using your fingertip, dab a small amount of the concealer, starting from the inner corner of the eye and moving outwards following a half-inch crescent path up to one-third of the under eye area. You can also dab the concealer on your dark eyelid to lighten the area. For a smooth finish, lightly dust loose or pressed powder to set the concealer. This would ensure that the concealer stays for a longer time. However, do not put too much powder as it would accentuate the fine lines. In most cases, the concealer alone cannot hide the dark circles. Usually combining foundation and eye shadow with the concealer provides the best coverage. To brighten the area around the eyes, your under eye concealer should be slightly lighter than your foundation color tone. Applying a soft pink eye shadow below the foundation helps in hiding dark circles that have a grayish hue. Light peach eye shadow helps in covering dark circles with bluish tone and the purple under eye circles can be made less noticeable with eye shadows with yellow tones. Avoid lighter tones as they would accentuate the dark circles. Wearing concealer over a foundation gives better result than wearing it beneath the foundation. Avoid stretching or pulling the skin while dabbing or blending the concealer.
Remember to blend the edges of the concealer into the foundation. You can use a sponge or brush for the purpose. Do not apply the concealer beyond the middle of the under eye area as it would make the crows feet and wrinkles more prominent. Avoid using a rich emollient cream before applying the concealer on the dark eyelids as it would spread into the lines around the skin. Appearance of dark circles is associated with poor sleep, fatigue, unhealthy habits such as smoking and excess alcohol intake, hormonal changes, pregnancy, anemia, nutritional deficiency, side effect of medications, allergies, diabetes, hypothyroidism and other health problems and genetics. These lead to excessive pigmentation, thinning of the skin below the lower eyelid or sub-dermal vascularity, and dark circles develop in the under eye area. An under eye concealer is a quick fix for dark circles. It helps in covering the pigmentation and brightens the eyes. However, appropriate care of the under eye skin area is essential for reducing the appearance of the dark circles. Regular use of an eye cream, especially a product enriched with retinol and vitamin K is known to improve the appearance of the under eye skin. Guard the delicate under eye skin area by wearing sunglasses to inhibit excessive melanin production following exposure to sunlight. Drink plenty of water to keep the skin hydrated. Furthermore, a healthy diet rich in vitamins C, D and E helps in keeping the skin healthy.
